Pride Guide 2009 GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE

Museum benefit marks the longest day of the year
by Anthony Glassman
Cleveland-It is rare that such a congruence of events occurs, that such myriad elements come together to form such a perfect day.
After Pride, many people will go to the bars; others might have parties in their homes, or even go to the bath-

house. Perhaps some will celebrate the summer solstice, the longest day of the year and a holy day for pagans, Wiccans and others.
The Cleveland cognoscenti, however, will head east from Voinovich Park after Pride, gathering in University Circle for a massive celebration of the opening of the new East Wing at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
The Summer Solstice Celebration brings a variety of musical acts, magnificent food, educational programs and, of course, art together to create an evening that will be unparalleled.
The party consists of three tiers. The first, Eventide, begins at 5 pm Saturday, and tickets are $150, $100 for museum members and free for Circlelevel members. On open bar will get the wheels turning quite well, and the early admission ensures the longest duration of festivities. There will also be passed hors d'oeuvres and curator greeting in the galleries.

perform in a variety of styles during this period.
At 7 pm, the Twilight segment begins, with tickets going for $55, $35 for members and free for those at Fellow level or above.
A cash bar will keeps things going, and tapas stations will feed the belly as the art and music feed the soul.
Dante Carfagna will spin Cleveland soul from the 1960s and '70s on the front lawn, surrounded by the sculpture "Wood-Pile" by Mark A. Reigelman II, which uses almost 19,000 swimming-pool “noodles” to create a private urban landscape enclosing the outdoor portion of the party.
Other musical acts during the Twilight portion of the evening include" the Gypsy jazz of Hot Club of Detroit, the Balloon Bass Trio and the funky Slavic Soul Party.
Finally, at 10 pm, tickets drop to $15 for Solstice, and the party continues until 2 am.
Snack stations replace the tapas, and the music continues with Dan Deacon's
Balloon Bass Trio
party music amidst the crowd, the Basement Bhangra queen DJ Rekha from New York and the blissed-out sounds of Cleveland's own Emeralds.
